Type Locality and Naming

Along the beach between Laem Mai Phai village and Puem Suk village; reference sections at Laem Phan Wa, Phan Wa bay, Laem Phap Pha, and Laem Tukkae, Phuket province. Proposed by Hills (1989), revised by Chaodumrong and others (2004, 2007) and Chaodumrong (2010), Department of Mineral Resources (2007). Basal formation in the Kaeng Krachan Gr.

Synonym: หมวดหินแหลมไม้ไผ่


Lithology and Thickness

Sandstone, claystone. Lower part is sequences of thin-bedded turbiditic sandstone and interbedded claystone. Changing upwards to laminated claystone in the Upper part. Slump beds, Bouma sequence, bioturbation and drop stones are present. 120 m thick.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Its lower boundary has not been observed at type section. Regionally, maybe unconformable onto the lower Carboniferous of the Khuan Klang Fm or Yaha Fm?

Spillway Fm (conformable)

Regional extent

Peninsula

Correlation: Huai Phu Noi fm of Piyasin (1975) might be coeval with the lower part of the Laem Mai Phai Fm of Hills (1989).

Poorly preserved brachiopods occur, such as Spirifer sp., and Spinomartinia sp.
